Few can say they got three strokes and came back from it.
Leo attributes much of his recovery to what he learned in the lates 1980’s from the Bulgarian Olympians. Which was the genesis of his Bulgarian Burst and Big Beyond Belief manuals. And that influenced much of his thinking to this day. Few can teach proper fitness training and or teach how to get huge.
I think my proudest moment, even though I competed up to the world level my proudest moment was doing a photo shoot inside Gold’s Gym Venice with all the pros that were there because that was intimidating, you know, to be around those guys and to feel like you belong there.
How Leo Introduced the world to the Anabolic-High Fat diet for getting shredded and huge.
The Keto diet on steroids. Before there was Keto.
I met a guy by the name of Mauro Di Pasquale. He’s a doctor and Mauro and I connected after one of my shows i saw that he was writing articles for one of the magazines. I thought you know what you never know until you try. So I reached out to him. Lo and behold he got back to me! He was known for the ketogenic diet and we collaborated and this was way ahead today’s modern keto movement.
This was around the days of Dr. Atkins. We wrote a manual called Anabolic Diet which was where we just targeted the bodybuilder and said, “look this is a way for you to eat that’s very counter intuitive.”
It went against the grain and people had some knowledge with Atkins. But there was so much misinformation and misconception about how that diet really worked.
So I did whatever Dr. Mauro said to do. And I will tell you what it. I ended up staying on that diet the whole time when i was competing it got that good of results.
You have two different metabolisms in your body.
You have a free fatty acid metabolism which is the metabolism that Atkins Diet or Keto diet accesses. And that’s in the free fatty acid your body is using fat as its main energy source just to be clear. And then you have glucose metabolism you’re using the carbohydrate or the glucose. it is utilizing carbohydrates as its main energy source.
